Humidity Monitoring Sensor

Posted on

Since humidity sensor senses, measures and reports the relative humidity in the air it needs to measure both the moisture (humidity) and the air temperature. Relative humidity is actually the ratio of actual moisture in the air to the highest amount of moisture that can be held at that air temperature. Thus the higher the temperature the more the water vapour it can hold. Humidity or dew sensors can use capacitive measurement which relies on electrical capacitance.  The ability of two nearby electrical conductors to create an electrical field between themselves is called the electrical capacity. As far as the sensor design is concerned it can be composed of two metal plates and contain a non conductive polymer film between them. When the moisture from the air collects on these two plates it causes the voltage to change. These voltage fluctuations are converted into digital readings showing the level of moisture in the air.

There are many different kinds of humidity sensors; they may vary in accuracy, operating temperature range, humidity range, supply voltage, packaging type and supply current.  The popular uses of a humidity sensor are quite surprisingly common. For example they can be used in monitoring and as a method of taking preventive measures in homes for people with illnesses that are affected by humidity. Their application includes usage in home heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC systems). Besides which they are immensely popular in offices, cards, museums, industrial spaces and greenhouses.

Advanticsys provide similar solutions and utilize equipment like the Telosb Sensors as a part of their solution. This provides good safety and peace of mind for all involved.
